FAQ- Residency Program
Does your program accept both MDs and DOs?
Yes, we consider all applicants, both MDs and DOs.
Does your program accept IMGs (International Medical Graduates)?
Yes, however, they must be a US citizen as we are unable to sponsor Visas.
Are there any away rotations available?
Yes, there are established away rotations. There is also an option of seeking out other opportunities for away rotations.
What does unopposed mean?
An unopposed residency means there is only one residency program in the hospital. Therefore, there is no competition between residency programs for procedures, deliveries, etc.
Does your program offer 1-on-1 mentorship?
Yes. Our attendings are always willing to teach 1-on-1 and tailor mentorship to your academic needs.
Does your program offer a SIM Lab?
Yes. Our program has access to Campbell University's School of Medicine SIM Lab, which has a wide array of advanced simulation equipment.
When are your residents required to take Step/Level 3?
Residents are required to take Step/Level 3 before completion of their 2nd year. Residents are encouraged to take the exam within the PGY-1 year. Our program covers the exam expense if scheduled before January 1st of PGY-1.
What amenities do residents have access to?
GME room with workspace, lounge area, lecture area, and snack bar.
Resident parking lot adjacent to the hospital.
All meals are provided to residents at no cost in the hospital cafe.
24-hour employee coffee lounge - Common Ground.

Does your program accept visiting medical students for away rotation?
Yes. Both inpatient and outpatient away rotations are available. Please contact our Residency Coordinator,

Are there research opportunities within your program?
Yes. Our program participates in a yearly research symposium through CUSOM.
Residents also have the opportunity to pursue research interest.
Can residents moonlight?
Yes. Residents with a full, unrestricted North Carolina license can moonlight. Moonlighting is only an option for 2nd and 3rd year residents in the Emergency Room and 3rd year residents as Hospitalist.
Where do your residents go after graduation?
Most of our residents decide to stay in North Carolina. Several residents have decided to join the SampsonRMC team as a hospitalist or as part of hospital-owned outpatient clinics.
